The Problem
Juvenile offenders who do not receive adequate support and intervention, particularly those who are incarcerated, experience high recidivism rates, often with up to 80% rearrested within three years of release. Lacking intervention, youth often face a cycle of reoffending and reincarceration, with 55% rearrested within one year of release from confinement.
The Solution
Education is a critical factor in reducing juvenile recidivism, with studies indicating that educational programming can lower re-offending rates by up to 43%. Higher academic achievement, high school completion, and school re-enrollment post-release are strongly associated with lower recidivism, whereas dropping out is positively associated with future criminal behavior.
Our Mission
Project Pathfinder provides tutoring services and mentoring support to juvenile offenders in helping them gain access to higher education. Our mission is to support our students in breaking the cycle of generational incarceration, charting their own course in life, and helping them to become leaders and contributing members of society. We are here to remind them - and the rest of society - that a setback is not a dead end!
